My wife and I spent 4 wonderful days in early Nov. in Varenna at Marilena's - Marilena House. It is difficult to tell which was better - the home - and I do mean home like in your own home or the person. Both are very warm and wonderful. The location is in the center of the little city and convenient to everything - train, ferry or hiking. If you visit - you will want to go back.

Varenna was a perfect location from which to enjoy the wonders and beauty of the Lago di Como district. Whilst not the biggest of the towns along the lake it is very well placed for visiting all towns and for making day trips into Switzerland. Marilena House was also perfect in comfort and location-right by the centre piazza of the town. The apartment was spacious, well equiped and convenient to all amenties in the town and from the windows we could watch the activities of the centre square and local restaurants. Marilena herself, was a kind and wonderful hostess, generous with her time and helpful with suggestions and local information.

"As we arrived in cobblestone square in the charming little town of Varenna, Marilena was there to greet us and make us feel at home. We toured through the little alleyways to find lovely little restaurants and to learn about "our" private garage in town. Heading a short distance down the hill to the lake and ferry dock, one can choose from a selection of cobbled staircases, past wonderful old houses and a few shops. We felt as though we had stepped right into a fairytale. We then drove a mile or so south on the lake to "our" home away from home, where we found idyllic views of the lake, snow-capped mountains, and the back of Bellagio from every window, every couch, table and bed. Decorated in keeping with life in the Varenna area, the apartment is immaculately clean and beautifully equipped. Marilena has thought of everything: full kitchen, dishwasher, clothes washer, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, flat-screen TV . . . and everything in excellent working order. Each day we parked in "our" garage in Varenna and headed for the ferry landing to board a ferry, motor launch or hydrofoil for visits to other villages aroun.

Both the town of Varenna and Camilla House combined for the best week out of the month we spent in Italy. Don't overlook the free use of the garage in town because of the lack of parking in and around town. The town is charming and has a special ambience at night; it feels very comfortable and safe. The view across the lake from our apartment to Bellagio is beautiful as are the mountain ranges across the lake. There is nothing Marilena doesn't know about the area and she truly goes out of her way to insure a pleasant experience. The ferries easily connect you to Bellagio and other picturesque spots. The train service to Milan is excellent. When we go back to Varenna we will stay at Camilla Housed the lake, where we wandered, shopped, enjoyed lunch, visited villas and soaked up the amazing atmosphere. Every afternoon we picked up fresh croissants for breakfast the next morning. Just a short drive takes you to the Swiss Alps . . .about one hour to St. Moritz. Or take a ferry across the lake to Menaggio and drive a short distance to Lugano. Spending an evening with Marilena was a highlight, as she gave us a tour of Varenna, sharing the history of the village's homes, gardens, restaurants, and waterfront. If you are looking for a lot of action and glitz, do not stay in Varenna. But if you are looking for natural beauty and want to see how.

Camilla House in beautiful Varenna is great! My husband and I stayed there this summer and wanted to spread the word that it is a real find. It was very clean and comfortable and equipped with everything we could have wanted including satellite TV and internet service through a web key and some fans which helped a lot to take the edge off on those really warm days (something our hotel rooms in Italy have never provided). And the views of the lake were to die for. Our host went out of her way to make us comfortable. She met us at the train station and took us directly to the apartment and then to a supermarket in one of the neighboring towns, which really helped us get settled in quickly. We chose not to rent a car since we wanted to get some exercise. Instead we preferred to walk along the picturesque path in front of the apartment down into town (with lovely views of the Villa Monastero Gardens) and sometimes we also took the trail up that joins with the "Sentiero del Viandante" (Wanderers Path) to the Castle Vezio (where we often ate lunch or enjoyed a cool drink). When our son drove in to join us for a few days, he really enjoyed the convenience of having a parking spot at the entrance of Camilla House plus Marilena was kind enough to give us the use of a garage in the center of Varenna. It was all very convenient since parking in Varenna can be a real challenge. We also loved that we could just walk out our door and down a flight of stone stairs (less than 100 meters) and a minute later we were swimming on our own private beach. We found that we really liked that the apartment is in a quiet residential part of the town, far away from the traffic noise and the other tourists. Instead our neighbors were the local Italians who live there. We found it to be a perfect (and very private) place to relax in at the end of a day of sightseeing. We could stare out those windows at the lake and the mountains and those ever-changing sky for hours!

What an unforgettable experience Our family had the pleasure of staying at Casa Marilena in April 2010 and we continue talking about our trip and Marilena's impeccable hospitality and wonderful accommodations. The owner, Marilena, not only is clean, organized and has provided her guests with all the necessities, she genuinely cares about her business and makes every possible effort to accommodate and help her guests. We were right in the center of this laid back tiny town and were able to go around by ferry boat all around the lake. Although we had a car, we ended up leaving it more often in the parking lot and traveling by boat, as it was easier and more fun for our children. We loved every moment of our stay, and we'll definitely go back to Casa Marilena again and again, after all our daughters would love to see the co-owner, Tartufina the cat, yet again.

Varenna is a delightful little village on the eastern shore of Lake Como, with the lake on one side and mountains on the other. It is very conducive to walking- short walks up and down cobbled lanes with multi covered window boxes, to and from the lake edge; a very picturesque walk to and from the station whether via the main road or the lakeside walkway; half an hour to the nearest village where Eurpoe's shortest river roars out of the mountainside and tumbles into the lake, slightly longer if you take trhe wooded mountainside path; and longer walks up mountains to more lovely little villages or the next larger town. Express trains erun fro Milan and take just over and hour and goes on to the Swiss border. Ferries go up and down the lake to larger towns for more shopping and sight seeing including some fabulous villas and Como has a beautiful basillica and a fernicular railway. Varenna shops have superb local produce-wines, fresh pork, sausages, cheeses, dried mushrooms, pulses, pasta and fresh fruit. More mundane needs are suprisingly cheap in the supermarket in the next town, reached by car, bus or train. The sound is church bells and birdsong. There are 4 historic churches in the main square, each with priceless art works. Local artists provide watercolours, oils and ceramics. The ornithological museum has an amazing bird collection. Be aware that most businesses close from noon till 3pm, but open early and close late. Marilena house has everything you could possibly need including a balcony for wining and dining. Marilena is the ideal host- not intrusive, but if you need any information you only have to ask. A castle, a monastery, a monastery garden- what more could you ask. A week is not enough, stay a fortnight.

We recently stayed at Marilena's house in the beautiful town of Varenna. Marilena was so helpful - picking us up from the station; driving us to the supermarket; lending us a mobile phone because ours was not working; taking us back to the station at the end of our stay and generally giving us lots of helpful advice. The apartment was delightful and very well equipped and beautifully and comfortably furnished. One drawback for us (coming from sunny Australia) was that being winter, many restaurants, bars and attractions were closed at this time which we had not realised. However I would thoroughly recommend Marilena's House to anyone - and Varenna and the Lake itself are just so beautiful - an absolutely stunning place to visit at any time of the year.

october 2009-Camilla house We arrived at Varenna train station and were met by Marilena who took us to Camilla house. We could not belive our luck when we arrived it was beautifully furnished and tasefully decorated in a typical Italian style. All the appliances were upto date including a large wide screen television (with satalitte) and there was everything that you could possibly need (coffee makers were very welcome). The appartment was extremely clean and well maintained as well.The view over Lake Como was stunning and we spent most evenings watching the sun go down over the mountains and lake before going into Varenna for dinner at the many of the superb restaraunts. we also spent some time going around the lake by car and the ferries visiting the many little towns around the lake. I would like to finish off by saying that Marilena is a lovely lady and made us very welcome nothing was to much trouble for her, and she very kindly INSISTED that she take us back to the station on our reluctant return journey. We can wait to go back again. See you next year Marilena.

We just completed our stay in Varenna with Marilena (six of us stayed at Marilean House, Lidia House and Luna House apartments)and the gang wishes to thank Marilena for a great stay. She took us shopping in the next town and helped us with suggested day trips to take from Varenna. A few of our party had never been to Italy and were very impressed with Varenna. We were so blessed to have been able to stay in Angelina's house. We have just returned from our visit and miss Angelina, Marilena and the charming town of Varenna tremendously. Marilena went above & beyond to ensure we had the most glorious vacation one could ask for. Marilena invested so much time helping us with our itinerary. She did all of this because it is quite obvious that she truly cares about her clients. When all of her rooms were already booked, she offered us a room with Angelina. We had no idea that we would be able to stay in such a gorgeous home. The room is filled with splendid antiques and charm. We enjoyed eating fresh cheese, wine, meat & bread from the local Salumeria while being spoiled with a lake view on the balcony. The best part of the vacation though was not the stunning view, delightful town of Varenna, comfortable bed, spacious bath, lovely restaurants, or historic sights-it was the beautiful Angelina & Marilena that made our vacation. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND staying here. This was indeed the highlight of our trip to Italy. We will definitely be returning and already informed Marilena that we will call her before we even book the flight to make sure we can stay with Angelina. Trust Marilena to take care of you. Comment Text: Our family just spent a magical week in two of Marilena's apartments in the center of charming Varenna - Marilena House and Rosy House. We loved the town, our location, and Marilena! Our two daughters, son-in-law and grandbaby joined us and Marilena had everything ready for us and the baby when we arrived. We frequented the local shops and cafes, cooked together, explored the town castle and gardens, and swam at the lido. For our 39th wedding anniversary we had a fabulous meal at Quatro Pass. Marilena even took me to the local fish market where I bought pink lake trout - so good! It was a memorable family vacation. Thank you Marilena!

What a beautiful place, stunning views of the lake & staying in Fiumelatte gives you views of Varenna too! It felt like real Italy, so much better than a bland hotel. Take away the trains & it would be utterly perfect, as they are noisy, but we'd happily go back again! Marilena couldn't have been more helpful, she was lovely.

I came to Italy for a research project and I wanted to be on the lake, but I also needed easy access to the train. Marilena was kind enough to take my husband and myself to and from Varenna whenever we needed to shop, have dinner, or catch the train, so those who haven't rented a car shouldn't hesitate in considering Camilla House for their stay. Camilla House was gorgeous (what views!) and provided every comfort. I can't wait to get back to Varenna and when I do, I will definitely call Marilena again! Highly recommended!

A great four days in Varenna at Rosy House thanks to Marilena, who is friendly, organized and unobtrusive. This little flat is perfect for a couple: neat, large BR, well laid out and appointed. It's nicely located close to the central square and just off Via XX Settembre, steps from a few really good ristoranti, and just up a steep Salita from the public part of the waterfront. A real find!

My girlfriend and I spent a beautiful week in Camilla apartment. The apartment was very well equipped, with everything you might need, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The apartment has windows that go down to the floor through which you see directly the lake and no matter the time of the day the view is breathtaking. The location is good, especially if you have a car, and if you want to explore the surrounding areas. Marilena is extremely nice, she was very helpful, and answered without delay to any question. This was the loveliest vacation we have ever had and we will definitely come back.

My husband and I stayed at "Marilena House " for a month this spring. Marilena is an excellent host and very concerned that everything is in order. The apartment was well furnished. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom new and very good. Everything you could ever need was in the kitchen, with a little balcony overlooking the street below. Two minutes away on the square are two small food stores and it is fun to shop in these little places. The salumeria has wonderful local cheese and sausage. The green grocer has fresh produce and everyday things. Both have good wine and beer selections. The church, good cafes and pizzerias are right there, too. The ferries are a 10 minute walk. The train is a 20 minute walk. Varenna is a charming village with good restaurants and beautiful vistas everywhere. Marilena's apartments are definitely one of the best choices in town. We also stayed at "Camilla House" for a few days and the lake views are wonderful.

We are four people who have spent an excellent nice holiday at the Camilla house in March 2009. The lake view from all the windows is just marvellous. And we have never lived in a holiday house so well equipped and perfect before. Nothing is missing and you have the feeling of living in a private italian home. Just a note to report that we had a great time in Varenna staying at Lidia's and Marilena House,we were 2 couples and decided to book 2 same apartments close eachother. Very clean and centrally located. A quick walk to the water and the ferry. A real nice change from small Italian hotel rooms. We called Marilena when we arrived at the train station.She showed us the apartments and whatever we could need. Very professional ,we highly recommend.

Ciao Marilena, We are home now, but think of you and our wonderful vacation on Lake Como. We had the feeling of deep contentment. I keep trying to remember the details of the beautiful walk from Camilla House to Varenna.I fell in love with the pathway and was able to make sketches and write, think....so quiet. Thank you for all your kindness and the rides you were so willing to give as we needed them.....train, grocery store. We vacationed at Marilena House in Varenna and had a wonderful time. Marilena met us at the train station which helped with luggage and gave us a tour of Varenna. The apartment is in the square and accessible to everything. It has a large bedroom with a king bed, clean bathroom, living room, fully equipped kitchen and balcony. Marilena's house has everything a travelor would need. Marilena was a wonderful help when we needed any reservations or questions. When we checked out, Marilena allowed us to keep our luggage in the bottom floor of the house until our train left. I will highly recommend Marilena's house to anyone. If we return, we plan on renting from Marilena again. We are more than pleased and feel we developed a relationship and have a friend in Varenna. Thank you Marilena!!

We have just returned from a wonderful stay in Varenna in Marilena's apartment. Marilena is 'molto simpatico' a delightful and vivacious lady, always extremely helpful during our 8-day stay. (Tartufina the cat is very beautiful too!)The apartment is very centrally situated in the exquisite village of Varenna - very pretty and tranquil.Ideally situated for us as it was near the railway station and centrally placed for all the many enjoyable boat trips around stunning Lake Como. Varenna has plenty of lovely places to eat but the highlight for us was eating at the wonderful Villa Cipressi - a romantic villa on the lake with delicious food and a truly memorable evening. We took trips on all the various boats round the lake as well as taking a trip by train to Bergamo where the historic old town is perched on a hill. It was always welcoming to return to Varenna each evening as it is a very homely place and it was so quaint, beautiful, and had very friendly people. We had a superb holiday in Marilena's apartment at the end of August. Marilena is a wonderfully warm character who thoroughly enjoys looking after her guests. We stayed in Marilena's house for one wonderful week in June 2008. Marilena picked us up at the train station and when our week was up, she brought us back. The apartment was perfect and Marilena was warm and welcoming. The apartment had all the conveniences we needed. Small restaurants and stores are just steps away as is the Lake. When we return to Lake Como, we will again stay at Marilena's.

My Fiancee and I contacted Marilena through her website last Easter. We had the daunting task of finding accommodation for 50 people for our wedding in Varenna July 2008. Even though her own apartment was already booked for our requested dates Marilena spent her own time to put us in contact with some of her friends who also had apartments. We booked these on her advice and they turned out to be perfect for our guests! I cannot thank her enough for her help. I would defiantly recommend Marilena, the world needs more people like her. We have just returned from 1o days in Varenna, staying at the Luna apartment. It was a fantastic holiday and the apartment was perfect for us. We travelled with a 3 year old, and the apartment was located close to a small beach which was great for swimming. We loved the location as we could easily catch the ferries and train. We would definitely return, and loved it in Varenna. The apartment was spotless and had all the facilities that you need, it had an oven, microwave, and fantastic shower.

Our group of 5 was fortunate to book Camilla House with its fantastic views from each large window. The accomodations were fine, & Marilena was a SUPER hostess! She picked us up promptly, zipped us to the ferry, the plaza, the restaurant...& she seems to know everyone in the historic town. Our group of five just enjoyed four nights in Camilla House. Thank you Marilena for driving us everywhere. You let us use your laptop, loaned us jackets and umbrellas when it rained, lent us your cellphone, told us how to get to the beach in five minutes, booked restaurants and explained everything to us. I spent 1 week in Camilla House with my family of 5, the apartment offers more than i expected for a big family, there is everything or more,the lakeview is gorgeous and the use of the central garage is of big value as parking in the center of Varenna is a "mission impossible".Wr appreciated also walking to Varenna on the paths which leads to the Eremo and the Monastero gardens .We recommend Camilla house to anyone.

We stayed at the Luna House in May 2008. It was ideal for us - spotlessly clean, everything provided and very comforable. We wouldn't hesitate to book with Marilena again. The location is ideal for exploring Varenna, in the centre (but not noisy) and walking distance to restaurants and most places of interest. Having visited the area a few times before, we found Varenna itself is a very good base for exploring Lake Como. It is handy for train travel, meaning you don't need to hire a car if travelling up from Milano or Bergamo. Perfect for boat travel too, whether cruises or the ferry to Bellagio/ Menaggio. A happy holiday in a beautiful location!

We have recently returned from our stay in Varenna at Marilena's and everything was absolutely perfect. Marilena graciously picked us up at the train station when we arrived and brought us back on our departure. The apartment is located near the town's beautiful church and a very short walk down to the lake's edge and to cafes. The walk along the lake to the ferry is beautiful and a wonderful way to begin and end the day. It's quite a hike up to the castle, but absolutely worth it for the views of Lake Como. We will DEFINITELY be returning to Lake Como and hope that we are able to, once again, stay in one of Marilena's places in Varenna. Thanks, Marilena, for your outstanding hospitality.

Camilla House was the best place of all the wonderful places we stayed on our 6-week trip, and Marilena is the best hostess we've ever had anywhere! It would take a book to describe all our wonderful experiences, but one thing alone is worth staying there: that incredible view of Lake Como that we saw every morning and every night out those big windows - we couldn't believe we were so fortunate to have found it. We have only just arrived home, and could not wait to add our praise for the wonderful stay at Camilla House in April. Marilena is WONDERFUL!! Beautiful weather and view of the lake was stunning. Marilena arranged for us to be picked up on our last night and taken to Crotto de Pino Restaurant for an unforgettable meal. She also got out of bed early on Saturday morning to pick us up and take us to catch our train to Florence. She is terrific!!! We plan to come again and stay longer! Ciao Marilena and Tartufina

Thanks to Marilena for a wonderful stay in "Marilena's House." Marilena was incredibly helpful and accommodating. We arrived very late at night in the pouring rain with a baby in tow, and she cheerfully greeted us at our car with an umbrella. What a relief to find a crib all set up in her comfortable apartment! The location was wonderful, right in the heart of Varenna. Highly recommended--we are eager to return. Thanks again!

I spent a wonderful 2 weeks at Camilla House in early April. The apartment was perfect! It had floor to ceiling windows which allowed an unobstructed view of the Lake. It was very comfortable, clean and homelike with everything I needed. The use of the garage in Varenna (free of charge) would be wonderful for anyone with a car. I had no car but found the walk into Varenna very enjoyable. Marilena was extremely kind and helpful. She cheerfully took me to the train station at 6 am so that I could catch my early flight home. I can not imagine a lovelier place to stay and hope to return soon.

It is the first time we got a real descripition of the location, we did not have any car so what we found on our arrival was exactly what we were looking for: going in and out having everything we could need, public transportations , shops, restaurants in 4 steps.The apartment is very nice decorated , like being home, lake is only one short stair.Staying one week allowed us quite enough to book for next spring.

I stayed in Camilla's cottage for 6 days in early October, 2007. The apartment was spotless and well appointed and Marlena was very helpful. Not only did she meet me in Varenna when I arrived, she also took me grocery shopping and introduced me to how everything worked in the apartment. The view is spectacular and the walk into town is quite doable, although Marlena was just a phone call away when I needed her to pick me up or take me home after a day of exploring the surrounding towns and lake. I took the train to Milan and also the boat to Menaggio so I could travel by bus to Lugarno. Marlena got up early to take me to the early ferry. There is so much to see and do. If you plan to be in the area for a week, I would suggest buying a weekly pass for the ferries. I highly recommend this apartment. It was like having a home away from home in one of the most scenic parts of Italy. Thanks Marlena for all your help. You made my stay an enjoyable one.

My husband and I chose the Camilla House from the internet. When we arrived, it was everything it said it would be. Perfect. Marilena picked us up from the train station, arranged for a ride for us to have dinner at the restaurant and picked us up the next day to shop at the grocery stores. She was the most helpful landlady we have ever met. My husband and I really loved the walk from the apartment to Varenna and to the train station in Fiumulatte. The apartment was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a view to die for. At night, we could see all the sparkling lights from the other villages across from the lake. There are much to do starting from Varenna. Milan is only 1 hour away on the train and the ticket to Milan is less than 5 Euros each way. We recommend Marilena's apartments to anyone who wants to vacation in Lake Como. Thank you, Marilena for allyour help.

In September of this year my wife and I revisted Lake Como choosing centrally located Varenna as a base for our stay, given its proximity to rail and ferry service, allowing easy access to the many attractions afforded by this beautiful lake and environs. Our choice of accommodation proved to be most fortunate. Marilena's house, located in the centre of beautiful Varenna is a tastefully decorated apartment that offered every convenience with Marilena adding to a delightful stay by being the perfect hostess.Without doubt the best apartment stay we have enjoyed in 17 visits to Italy.

We spent a wonderful three days in Lidia's House. The unit was expectionally clean and well prepared. The living/dining area is very good size. The bath appeared recently renovated. The bedroom had great storage and is very comfortable. The house is a very nice change from small Italian hotel rooms. The location is ideal. A fews steps takes you to the central piazza. The lake front and ferries are just a couple of minutes away. Great restaurants and fine gelato are all within a leisurely stroll. We highly recommend Marilena's apartments.

We had a wonderful stay at Luna house in August 2007. I want to thank Marilena and Anna for the lovely apartment, nicely set up, comfortable, and modern appliances. We were just a 15 minute walk from the train station and just meters from San Gorgio square. Varenna is a lovely village and the sights across the lake are spectacular. The super train system made it easy to visit Rome, Florence, and Venice. Bravo to all ! ! !

We thank Marilena for helping us and our friends to find the 3 apartments with balconies and garden in the center as we didn't have any car,one close to the flowers shop,valentina and luna apartment: we highly recommend this owner also when you need more than one nice apartment.Our friend David Forlow received a very unpolite answer from another owner of Varenna to go 10 km far from Varenna to find a second accomodation as impossible to find 2 apartments in the center.We found 3 wonderful apartments with Marilena help.

Just returned from 2 wonderful weeks weeks in Marilena's flat. The flat is perfect - really well equipped, spotlessly clean, and in a perfect location in the centre of Varenna - and you do get used to the bells after a couple of days! Marilena was so good to us - taking us to the supermarket, and always around in case of any problems (not that we had any). I can't recommend her highly enough -and Varenna is beautiful - we can't wait to go back. Great food, amazing scenery, and really friendly people - perfect!

Stayed in Luna Apartment for two weeks -beautiful spacious clean flat - big comfortable beds, multi jet shower, enough equipment in the kitchen to entertain a large family and friends, right in the centre of town. Marilena and Anna were lovely - so helpful and welcoming. Nice bars and restaurants all round town and beautiful old buildings. Learnt to go back to sleep after the 7am peal of bells and missed it when we came home.

We had a lovely stay in Marilena apartment in Varenna. It's located right in the central square, with a view of the church out of the bedroom window, and cafes and restaurants directly below.The lakeside is literally a 2 minute stroll away.We spent our weeks hopping on ferries across the lake to the beautiful towns around the lake.The owner of the flat, was extremely helpful, collecting us from the train station and dropping us off when we left, giving us a lift to the supermarket, etc. as we didn't have a car. This location of this apartment is perfect for exploring the beautiful towns of Lake Como. I highly recommend it.

We have spent a wonderful week in Luna apartment. It has just got renovated, a big beautiful bathroom and a modern fully equipt kitchen. We were two adults and three children who lived very comfortable there. It is situated 20 meters from a small beach which our kids loved. Marilena is a charming and very helpful hostess! And after trying almost every resturant we have decided that the best one is the Albergo sole, just by the church square. We can highly recommend a visit to Varenna and a stay at Luna house!!

Lovely week in Camilla apartment with marvellous views of the lake. Very clean and well furnished. Marilena was very helpful both before we arrived (organising our family accommodation needs)and whilst we were there (telling us where the best shops were and helping with our limited italian). Thanks to Marilena's cousins we had a lovely meal in Crotto di pino with Ivo offering a free taxi service to and from our apartment, and also stayed with Antonia for one night. Would highly recommend this apartment and would love to come back again. Helps if you only have a small rental car!

We had a great week at Marilena's house. It has a great position on the square,is spotlessly clean and has everything you need for your holiday. Marilena makes you feel at home and is on hand if you need her. There are lots of church bells ringing in the village but they do not ring at night so there is no problem sleeping. The two villa gardens are worth a visit and the footpath up to the castle rewards you with wonderful views. Varenna is in a great position for catching ferries to the other villages

I HAD THE MOST WONDERFUL STAY AT MARILENA'S HOUSE IN MARCH 2007. IT IS BEAUTIFULLY SITUATED WITH VIEWS OF THE SQUARE. MARILENA IS DELIGHTFUL, AND HELPFUL. I stayed one week in Carla House with my family because of a wedding in Varenna:the apartments is big, large bedrooms and offers everything for a big family as we were 7 people.We have a good memory of our holiday and we'll remember our late evenings on the balcony overlooking the lake.Even the kitchen has its own balcony.The price Marilena gave us was a bargain ,as the apartment is great, bright and we found everything we could need for all of us, dolls included for our children.Thanks.

We rented Camilla house with magic lakeviews in Varenna suburb for ten days this past April. We had the best vacation there. Our accommodation was well chosen, convenient, clean, the central garage absolutely important(the small town is often crowded of cars,it's close to the ferry, shops and restaurants.Marilena made us feel welcome & comfortable, the apartment has all the appliances, linen and cooking equipment you want.We meet her cousins they own the nice pub with soft good music and pizza.

I spent a week at Marilena's apartment and our relative joined us for some days at Valentina's house: weather had been warmer than usual for that time ,both apartments have balconies,the best equipped and decorated one during our trip to Italy.We've been working at our book and having 2 tables, dining area separated from the work table in the living room, was a big advantage.As we brought our legtop and an umts mobil phone ,we discovered we could have internet connection with a 20 euro monthly card wherever we could need.Our host is a good person helping people who are new to the town and the country. I will be let you know as soon as possible as I wish I could be in Varenna now, relaxing by the lake again.

Having the use of the owner's garage in the centre of Varenna was great and highly valuable.We spent Easter week in Camilla apartment situated just outside Varenna.The apartment had a magnificent view and had all the modern amenities that one requires when on holiday like dishwasher, washing maschine and even 2 tvsat.I never expected parking in the center was really like an olimpic game.Free parkings do not exist as they are very far from the central church square and permanent busy.I highly recommend not to rely on some owners writing about easily free public parkings,as they are very difficult to be found and very far or you must have good legs for a long walk .Marilena is a perfect host and we want definetely to come back again.

The setting is extremely special, as you look out across the widest part of Lake Como (3 miles) onto Bellagio Pennisula & across to Mennagio, practically while still lying in bed! The apt. allows you to experience the feeling of living there (ie, cooking, relaxing watching the sunset). A wonderful place with Marilena being helpful !

We have just come back from a lovely week in Varenna. The seven of us stayed in the spacious Carla's House, which had plenty of room for us 4 adults and 3 children. The house is located right in the centre of things between the railway station and ferry port and a short pleasant walk from the town square. It is well decorated and very well equipped with every convenience including a range of different coffee machines! The kitchen cupboards were stocked with basics: coffee, vinegar, salt & pepper, mineral water. There is a washing machine and even a hair-dryer. We were magnificently looked after by Marilena, just as everyone else is! Varennna is a very picturesque and quiet town, which is a great place to relax. With its excellent rail links to Milan and ski resorts, plus ferry links to everywhere on Lake Como, it makes a great base for exploring the area. As well as visiting the local area, we managed a day of skiing in St Moritz, which is about 2 hrs' drive away. All in all, we highly recommend a stay in Carla's house

My husband and I just returned from a week-long stay in Maurizio's apartment in Fiumelatte which we rented through Marilena. Having read all these comments, I originally asked Marilena if she had anything available but unfortunately, her times didn't match with our desired dates. She did, however, recommend her friend Maurizio's flat and could not have been more helpful in arranging the rental - as my Italian is really non-existent, Marilena's excellent English was very useful in the process. She helped us reserve the flat and then with directions and further suggestions before our trip and during our stay. Maurizio's apartment was perfect for us - more than anything, the view of the lake from the living room/balcony is stunning and the garage was definitely appreciated. Maurizio was anxious that we have everything we need and Marilena was more than happy to help us or just to chat with us while we were in Varenna. I definitely recommend renting with Marilena - the location is beautiful, the apartment was not wanting for anything and the hostess certainly goes out of her way to make your stay a memorable one.

Recently (22-28 Feb'07), I went to Varenna with my sister and her three kids. My first impression was that it a quiet countryside and I'm a city girl. We stayed at an apartment own by Marilena who was very friendly, speaks good english and she went out of her way to help us out, picked us up from milano centre becuase we arrived late; took us to the supermarket to stockup on food stuff for the children. Next door to the flat is a restuarant recommended by Marilena, the Pizza was delicious, the children gave it ten stars. Generally the people are very friendly and helpful, one night coming back from Milan,we took the last train to Varenna, missed our stop because the last carriage doors wouldn't open and we ended up in another town. We were helped by a stranger (Guicciano) who gave us a lift back to Varenna in his picolo car (seemed something out of the Citroen advert). He claimed it was too dangerous for us all to be walking since there was no means of transport for us to get back to Varenna that night. Apart from not having enough activities to keep the children amused we travelled to various places pointed out to us by Marilena - carnival in Bellano, ferry ride, visit to Lecco, Como and Milano centre. And of course expoloring Varenna - the beach, castle, attended Sunday service - the constant church bell going off every time didn't bother us, free local concert and various walks to feed the the ducks. There is a small park with swings for the children near the ferry port. we enjoy a lovely cool sunny evening ferry boat ride from Lecco to Varenna. Marilena was so wonderful she took me to see her dentist while I was there. I was not charged by the dentist becuase Marilena was a good client. I must confession we all truly enjoyed ourselves and we are already planning on going again. Thank God for Marilena

My partner and I stayed in Camilla house in mid-March and had an amazing time. The apartment is wonderful, fully equipped for those who like to cook, and the view is unbelievable. Even the parking space in varenna has a view of the lake. Marilena is very helpful and the restaurant up the hill from the apartment is great. We hope to come back soon and have already recommended Marilena's apartments to friends in Italy and the states.

My wife and I stayed at "Marilena's Apartment" for a week at the end of October, 2006. We had previously read 39 wonderful comments which seemed way too positive to be true. THEY WERE TRUE!! We had great fun in a place we consider to be the best (a) on Lake Come AND (b) in Varenna!! We hiked, visited unique places, shopped, jogged, ate great food ferried to other towns (EG Bellagio - Varenna is better), trained to/from Milan and walked this romantic place. BUT the best is Marilena; she'll do anything to make your stay better and is NOT intursive. Next best is the apartment; it's like being a home - candles, pictures, knick-knacks, etc. Staying there for 7 days allowed us to live a bit of Italian life; we became part of the small town and it's fine people. We stayed in Marilena's apartment last November, and I just realized that I had not left a comment. Marilena is not only a landlord, but very gracious. We had already stayed in the Lake Como area in the spring, but she took us places that we would not have found on our own. She picked us up and dropped us off at the train, took us to the Euro Spin for groceries in Bellano, and to open market. She was very generous with her time. Grazie Marilena. My husband and I stayed at Camilla the second week of October 2006. A person could ask for nothing more! The view from the apartment was fantastic. You can see the lake from every room. We had a car and appreciated the two parking places, one in town and one in Fiumelatte. The apartment is one of several units in the building. As others have said, the place is very clean; it has every appliance, cooking implement, linen a person could want. More than that, though, was Marilena herself. She was like a personal concierge. Each day, she'd ask where we were going and suggest what to see and do. One day I called to invite her to dinner, and her response to the phone call was "Oh, Judy. What's wrong?" She is so intent on making your stay heavenly. The environs of Lake Como are beautiful beyond belief. Rent this apartment; you won't be disappointed!

Marilena is very professional in terms of business (insisting on my mailing my deposit with a return receipt so that I had a record of the deposit). She was very helpful with directions as well. The apartment high above the lake was perfect. The view was gorgeous, the parking place there and downtown in Varenna were very much appreciated, and the apartment amenities made us feel right at home. We couldn't imagine before the best oppurtunity we had to find this wonderful location in Varenna, we stayed in Camilla House, 2 km from the cneter,with a eonderful sight on the lake ,2 parking spots one of them close the old port.My parents stayed in the cnetral very nice Marilena house in the center.Both are very modern well furnished ,much better to stay in these apartments than in some hotels cold rooms.Varenna is really the best town of lake Como!

We spent a glorious week in Camilla's House in Fiumelatte in May and cannot speak highly enough of the location, with beautiful views of Lake Como, or of the hospitality shown by Marilena. She couldn't do enough for us, taking us shopping and showing us the sights. The apartment was clean, well appointed, pretty and a home away from home. A car would be an advantage, though not essential, as the beautiful walk into Varenna is only a couple of kilometers. Good parking though, both at Fiumelatte and centre of town. There is also a train into Varenna. Our stay was fantastic in every way, we highly recommend Camilla's house. Thank you Marilena for making our stay unforgettable.

I have just returned from spending two lovely weeks in Varenna at an apartment owned and managed by Marilena. Our choice of accommodations in the Como Lake area could not have been better. The apartment has all the amenities needed for this venue and our hostess (landlord) was most delightful and helpful in showing us that area. We saw all that was humanly possible in a short period of time and Marilena's suggestions for day trips and eating places were right on target. My significant other and I could not be happier and the rate by comparison is quite a bargain. She was correct in recommending our not renting a car since the location makes transportation by ferry or train a simple means and much more reasonable than car rentals. Parking would be a problem should you think about car rental.

We spent one week in Camilla house a nice apartment 2,5 km from the center of Varenna, wonderful view on the lake,and we were very lucky to be in Varenna as we visited all the towns in Lake Como but Varenna is really the best, much better than Bellagio with its too many same shops there.We'll never forget our evenings at Ristorante Il Crotto di Pino in Varenna, really the best food quality, 2 minutes above Camilla.We went to Lierna but we found quite nothing we really didn't understand what was to see and to do in this town. Only Varenna really offers the best evenings in which you say to yourself "we will never forget it" Thanks Marilena for a wonderful holiday.

We spent a month in Italy, ending with a week in Varenna at Marilena's apartment in the center of town. Varenna is the perfect place to relax, and the apartment is very comfortable, with everything you need and more to set up housekeeping. The location just off Piazza San Giorgio is a lively and fun place to be. (Don't miss the gardens at Villa Monastero.) Marilena is an exciting, wonderful person with lots of helpful information including where to get the best pizza in town, the best restaurant the local folks use, and is very gracious to take you to the supermercato in Bellano to shop for groceries at far less cost than in Varenna. She picked us up from the station, took us grocery shopping and was full of advice and information about the area. The apartment was a perfect home from home in the heart of Varenna (definitely the best town on the lake). We stayed at Marilena's Lake Como "Cinzia" apartment in Fiumelatte, outside Varenna, and loved it. Marilena's prices are a bargain. We got a light and airy, clean, lake view kitchen/living room along with a lakeview bedroom, and a bathroom with a washing machine, for much less than the price of a hotel room. We even had space to have family who met us in Varenna come for dinner. It was really worth spending an entire week here-- lots to see and time to relax, too, so we were refreshed rather than exhausted by the end. Varenna is truly the nicest lake base town we saw and the "passerella" walkway between the ferry dock and the the lakeside restaurants is charming. Next time we would like to book both the "Cinzia" and the "Camilla" apartments (same location) and have family or friends join us.

We stayed in Marilena's apartment in the center square. What a perfect place to stay.This flat is close to everything and you get to experience the way the locals live. They are such friendly people. You don't need a car,for you can take the ferry or train everywhere. Marilena's place is a few minutes walk through the beautiful town,to the restaurants and shops. She will take you to the supermarket as soon as you arrive,after she picks you up from the train station. Marilena is so helpful,with so much information to help you enjoy your stay. Marilena offered us the most magnificent 6 days on Lake Como, in Varenna! Camilla house is a perfect jumping-off point for all of Italy, as it is so close to the train - one hour from Milan. Our hostess took us grocery shopping and served as our taxi driver whenever she could. Took us touring and showed us a side of Italy that tourists may miss. The house is beautiful and comes complete with candles and the little things that a visitor would like when away from home. Clean and homey - there are not enough words in any language to describe our time there. GO!!

It was my first visit to Italy and it is very important to have good conditions where you live. Marilena's Camilla apartment in Varenna has everything you need for comfortable life. And of course great view from window especially when you wake up you can see the lake and mountains with snow on the peak. It is very good highway to Milan and it is even fast way to Lugano (CH) you should only take a ferryboat to another side of the lake. Also there are a lot of outlets and other great shops around. We had a fantastic anniversary by Marilena in her apartment in the center of the town.The apartment has everything one could imagine.Marilena drove us one day to Cainallo on the mountain over Varenna and we reached the historic Piona Church through Valsassina and we could see from the top of the mountains the 3 lakes, Como Lecco and Lugano lakes.We will remember this wonderful panoramic trip between the mountains covered with the snow.Thank you ,we had a wonderful time.

I couldn't have asked for better lodging during my stay in Varenna. Marilena and her apartments are fantastic---I plan to return in 2006. The views from her apartment 2 km south of Varenna are incredible, and the apartment is very modern and very comfortable. If you stay there, do be sure to either 1) rent a car, or 2) bring your walking shoes, because it does take 30 minutes to walk into Varenna via the footpath above the road (I enjoyed it each time I did it!). One last thing...be nice to Marilena and maybe you'll get to meet Tartufina! I would write more, but I've got to study my Italian so that I'm better prepared next year. Ciao!

We rented this apartment in Varenna for two weeks this past September. We had the best vacation there. Our accommodations in Varenna at Marilena's apartment were terrific. It was convenient, clean, Marilena made us feel welcome & comfortable. We didn't need a car because you take the train directly there from Milan, The owner, Marilena, picked us up from the train station and drove us to the supermarket in Bellano to get groceries. She is the most gracious, helpful and courteous hostess. The apartment is reasonably priced, with the most lovely surroundings and location to everything--it's in the middle of the main piazza in Varenna. It's close to the ferry, shops and restaurants. Marilena herself, made it the most enjoyable and perfect vacation for us. We asked ourselves if we'd go back and stay there????... absolutely, positively.....YES! We have fallen in love with Varenna! Lake Como and particularly Varenna, is the most romantic, beautiful place on earth.It's a jewel to behold. Thank you Marilena! There is one thing.... the church bells. If you don't like to be awakened by church bells at 7am, you may not like it there because they are right outside the apartment. But we didn't mind because we rise at about 6am. so by the end of our two weeks, we waited for the beautiful bells to ring and we recorded them so we can play them when we get home. We also included the bells on our home video slide show of this marvelous trip! Would we advise a friend to rent it ? absoultely Yes!!!!

I stayed for only for a night with my gf in March. We really enjoyed the house. It includes a nice kitchen and big living room. The house is equipped with everything you want. If we knew the house would be such good, we would stay longer. Besides, the owner is nice and talkative. She even drove us to the pier early in the morning. Varenna is such a quiet and comfortable town to stay. Here is a place for you to visit and stay away from Milan for a few days. I will definitely plan to visit Varenna again in the near future.

We stayed in Marilena's apartment for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it and its location. If you want to be right in the thick of Italian life and hear the daily talk, smell the food, hear the church bells tolling and view the people milling about and visiting outside your window, this is the place to be. The setting for this apartment IS ITALY and nothing else. We had our two children ages 10 and 14 with us and they were as excited as us to be in Varenna. Such a beautiful village and the view from the castello is superb. Walking the passarella was all it is written up to be along the waterfront and the people are all so warm and welcoming. We loved Lake Como and we loved Varenna especially. Marilena is a friendly woman in her early 50's and very sociable. The apartment was a relaxing place to be at.

We stayed in the apartment of Marilena's friend Camilla. This is situated in a quiet, shady street just up from Varenna's lakeshore. We found it spacious and comfortable and enjoyed sitting under the sun canopy on our own balcony. Marilena and Camilla both helped us to settle in with everything we needed. Varenna is a beautiful, friendly town with excellent ferry access to the other attractions around the lake, although I thought Varenna's own gardens at Villas Monastero and Cipressi the loveliest.

I would say this was easily one of the very best. We just returned from a wonderful stay in Varenna for part of our honeymoon trip. Marilena was extremely helpful in getting us settled for our week-long stay and offering her assistance if we needed throughout the week. We loved the lake and the apartment where we stayed! It was romantic, very central (we didn't need a car!), affordable, and offered privacy and a home-like quality we wouldn't have received from a hotel. Varenna was also our favorite village out of all on the lake because it was so quaint, beautiful, and had very friendly people. We would highly recommend renting from Marilena and staying in Varenna. I stayed in Marilena's apartment in the centre of Varenna in May 2005. What a wonderful place! The apartment is well-equipped and overlooks the central piazza in this charming medieval village - you just walk downstairs for your morning cappucino, and several inexpensive restaurants are within seconds of the flat. The ferries across the lake are only a couple of minutes walk away. You don't need a car here, and can save a lot of money and hassle by getting the train from the airport to Varenna, where Marilena will pick you up. I was travelling on my own and Marilena looked after me very well. I had a wonderful time.

This past Easter, my husband and I stayed at the most beautiful apartment a couple of kilometers from the center of Varenna with gorgeous views of Lake Como. The apartment had everything we could possibly have needed including a washing machine, two satellite TV's and a parking space both there and in a garage in the center of Varenna itself. Hard-working Marilena, the woman who owns the apartment, was so very helpful and available if we needed anything and even took us to the larger supermarket in the next town to help get settled with supplies for the week.
